The Diary of Anne Frank
Director: Andrew Hogarth
Production Manager: Jane Fenlon
Venue: The Guild Theatre, Gravesend
Dates: 27/05/2010 -
This play is based on one of the most moving documents to emerge from World War 2, the diary of the 13 year old Jewish girl Anne Frank.
To escape the horrors of Nazi persecution, Otto Frank hid for two years with his
wife and their two daughters, Anne and Margot, in a disused loft in Amsterdam. Also
hiding with them were Mr & Mrs Van Daan, their son Peter and a dentist, Mr Dussel.
Throughout this time they are helped by two of Otto Frank’s employees Miep and Mr
Kraler.
In her daily journal, Anne recorded the trials and tribulations of the people around
her trying to live a normal life in the cramped conditions of the tiny loft whilst
under the constant threat of discovery by the Germans. The strain and unbearable
tension of their situation is skilfully conveyed in this poignant and remarkable
play.
